Poison week: Carrie Fisher and others said it best

When I decided I wanted to do a week of posts on the topic, I started drilling the internet looking for encouraging quotes on poison. You may not be surprised to learn that there are not many quotes that are both invigorating and referencing poison. I was mining an oxymoron. Fancy that!!

At the point when I was ready to just find something nice said by some member of the band Poison, I found the George RRR quote from yesterday. That was a close one.

I had one surprising side-trip, however, into quotes by Carrie Fisher. She was credited with,

“Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”

I love this, but the actual origin of the saying is a lot more complicated.

Don’t get me wrong, I am content to let Carrie Fisher have it (and word is she didn’t take credit for it). If you scan enough “poison” quotes, it is attributed to dozens of people.

The best explanation deserves another link so check out, FakeBuddahQuotes. Basically, it’s a paraphrase of an AA saying that has been echoing around for nearly eighty-five years.

This makes perfect sense: I love the saying and I love Carrie Fisher and I love drunks everywhere.
